The New Manhattan Sinfonietta, founded in 2017 by Maestro Gürer Aykal in collaboration with TAASNY, has played a pivotal role in showcasing Turkish music globally. The orchestra’s mission is to introduce Turkish culture and compositions to international audiences through its unique
performances. One of the orchestra’s significant milestones was its Carnegie Hall debut in 2018 with the concert titled "A Call for World Peace". This memorable concert, conducted by Japanese conductor Seiji Mukaiyama, marked the beginning of the orchestra’s journey to promote Turkish music and its fusion with global artistic expressions.
Since its founding, the New Manhattan Sinfonietta has continued to thrive under the leadership of Maestro Aykal. The December 18, 2024 concert, Anatolian Inspirations, held at Carnegie Hall’s Zankel Hall, will be the third installment of this ongoing concert series, which first began on February 8, 2020. This series highlights the fusion of Western and Turkish music, and the December performance will feature Yiğit Karataş as the violin soloist in Mozart’s Violin Concerto No. 5 in A Major ("Turkish"), Muammer Sun's Anatolian Suite, and Mozart’s Symphony No. 40. The concert reflects the orchestra’s vision of bridging cultures, celebrating Turkish musical heritage, and presenting it within a global context.
Creative leaders behind the success of these events, including İbrahim Yazıcı (President & Founder), Kutay Manfurat, Bedirhan Sezer, and Neşe Demircan, have worked tirelessly to organize and promote these performances, ensuring that Turkish culture continues to resonate in New York and beyond.
